It’s Quiet…..Too Quiet

Hello! Your friendly neighborhood DanamesX here. This is a quick post to let you know that things may be quiet on the blog for a little while. I work at a university and classes just started this Monday. I haven’t had to wake and be somewhere in about 5 months, so I’m slowly adjusting to my normal work flow (for how long we stay open). On top of that, I resumed my online classes Monday, so I am trying to create a schedule for when I need to fulfill my student obligations.

It has only been three days since things took off and I have been coming home exhausted each day. On top of that, I am trying to get a handle of my over worried brain so I can sleep peacefully at night. I’m enjoying the fact that my lazy days are coming to an end, but I was not prepared for the sudden burst of activities.

I have zero plans to abandon or let the blog fall to the side line. On contrary, I have several drafts that I have been working on, but I haven’t published for one reason or the other. I am slow when it comes to writing, and I like to polish things before publishing them. There is one post that I am writing that I wanted to put out this week, but again life dictates where I have to put my focus in. Once I get back into the swing of work and find a schedule for school work, everything should fall into place (unless a certain game coming out on Aug 28th doesn’t destroy everything).

If you are still reading up until this point, thank you for sticking around! I’m coming up close to the one year anniversary of the blog, and I want to start doing more things with the blog and within the community. To give you a sneak peak on what I have been working on in the background, I am possibly doing one of the stupidest things only I would have the patience to work on. I have been working on this all summer now, and I want to get it done before my one year. Along with that, I hope to have another announcement if I think I can get it to all work out.

So that is my mini life update I guess. I am very active on my Twitter if you need to reach me there, and I drop/ghost in the Support Role discord regularly. Again, thank you for enjoying my random thoughts and opinions and I hope to get back writing soon!

Update #3: Getting Back Into The Swing of Things

Things have been rough. My home has been turned into my office and there is no real feeling of “freedom” after I clock out for the day. Being home meant that I could breath and kick back with either playing video games or writing for this blog. It took me way longer than others to finally adjust to this new norm, but I think I am finally at a comfortable place to get back blogging. Writing used to be an escape from school and work when I wanted to write something different than procedures or essays. Now that I am out of school for the summer and not many task at work, I am left with this unknown time that I need to start using. With that, I am going to start focusing on this blog more to provide more content for all of you. My first real goal that I am establishing for my blog is to post at least one post per week. I’ve listed below some of the content that I have planned out.

Gaming Post (Duh)

I have finished more games this year than I did the previous. This is a giant accomplishment since we are not even halfway done with the year (for better or worse). There is a lot to talk about the games I’ve played, but I struggle on where to start. I want to talk about the pros and cons of the rich storytelling in the Legend of Heroes Kiseki trilogy and how you need to commit 200+ hours to get the most of it. Final Fantasy VII Remake was a game I was not excited for, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. I don’t want to talk about Sonic Forces, but I do want to talk about Bloodstained and how it compares to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night to me. I have all of these ideas, but it is getting the pen to that paper that I need to connect.

My Older Brother Co-op Tales

This was supposed to be a monthly series. Obviously, I missed last months post. I had two post done, but after rereading them it didn’t feel special. These tales are suppose to talk about gaming with my brother and how he influenced me to be the person I am today. Nothing in those old post told that story and I had to start over. Before the end of this month, I will have two chapters in this series done and then continue the trend until the end of ther series.

The Month of June

June is a special month for me since it is my birth month. I don’t normally do anything special for my birthday, but lately I have been more open to celebrate the occasion. For the month of June, I want to create content around a specific game franchise or topic. I have decided that this year it will be about the world of Monster Hunter. Monster Hunter is one of my favorite series of all time and I generally like talking about it. Six is the magic number and that is the minimal number of post that I have to do. I might even through in some streams if I can convince my friends to join me.

And that’s about it. I wish my writing habits were on point as my gaming right now. I am always on my Twitter and I need to remember that I have an Instagram. I don’t know how to end this post, so keep doing you and drink plenty of water.

Thanks for reading,

Update #2: New Year, New Goals, More Games To Play!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope the holidays have treated you fair and the new year treats you even better! I wanted to make an obligatory post about plans this year (the ones that I know of as of now) and what is coming down the pipeline for Tales From the Backlog.

Stories. Where Are They?

Patience young reader. I haven’t run out of stories yet; quite far from that! I started several drafts of stories that I wanted to share, but due to the advent post and me relaxing these past few days, I wanted to de-stress myself and enjoy the little things around me for a while. I also have a problem where my memory has become flaky in some areas, so I have to think hard if I am remembering some things correctly. Expect more stories soon!

2020 Will Be The Year I Get Games Done!

A lot of things prevented me in 2019 from enjoying my favorite pasttime (work, buying a house, grad school, balancing my marriage, my own stress, music, family, housework, etc). This year I plan to take on few tasks just so I do not stress or burn myself out like I did last year. Before writing this post, I spent the past four days doing nothing but waking up and playing video games from morning until midnight (I have not done that since….I don’t remember). Although I feel bad leaving somethings unattended, it felt great to just unwind and not stress about anything for a while before going back to work and starting classes again. I just finished Trails of Cold Steel 1 and the emotions are still flying high.

My wife and I are challenging each other to complete 5 games based on credentials that we came up with. She has expressed that she has missed gaming as well and we hope that this little challenge will get us both back into the habit of playing. We are still finalizing our list, but I am excited to share more time with her.<3 On top of those 5 games, I am challenging myself to finish 10 more games on top of that. 2019 was a bad year to be a game on my backlog, and with more exciting titles coming out in 2020, I don’t know when things will get done. I want to create a post my games of 2019, the past decade, and what I am looking forward in 2020 so expect those next week. After that I have a few games that I did finish that I have not had the time to talk about yet so I will get to those.

Quarterly Backlog Report

While this site is a good way to share my stories in gaming, it is also a good place for me to keep track on my activity and keep record. I have relied on my Google Spreadsheet for the past 5 years now and it will be good to have a different viewpoint of things. I also have access to database that I may try integrating one day. If you are interested in comparing stats when this post come out, keep an eye out for those.

And I think that is everything in this shot update post. I was planning on making a schedule for myself for when to post, but I think my theme for 2020 is to “Go with the Flow.” I need to find ways of eliminating some stress out of my life without giving up the things that I enjoy doing and that is my main goal for this year. So with that I will see everyone on the funny pages!

Update #1: Style of Writing/December Advent Calendar/Page Updates

*Looks at calendar*

Oh what you look at the time, it’s time for my first real update post to let my readers know what is happening now and in the future. I am present day DanamesX, I will be your host for this update post.

Style of Writing

The first thing I wanted to talk about was the style of writing that I wanted to continue doing. If you read my last two post about Halloween or the first Co-op tale, then you may have noticed that I tend to write in a comedic tone. After thinking on it for a while, I decided that I want to keep writing in that style since I tend to enjoy it a bit more and I have fun writing them. This does not mean that everything may be written like that, but for the most part expect more of that.

December Advent Calendar

Last year on my Twitter, I counted down my top 25 favorite games of all time. I am not going to repost that list since I would already change it after playing some games this year. I will announce the topic of this year’s advent calendar next week and begin writing up each of entry. Post will start on December 1st and conclude on December 25th Christmas Day. Again look forward next week to the announcement of the theme.

Page Update

I recently upgraded my WordPress account and now have more tools to play with. With that, I want to try and tweak my page up a little bit. The white-on-blue that it is currently is pleasing, but I would like to make it a little more engaging and personal to me. I would appreciate any feedback as I am messing around and know what people like or dislike.

And that is all I have. Short, simple, and to the point. I would like to continue writing more Co-op and Solo tales after the holiday season is over and more reviews if I can ever get a time to sit down and actually finish a game *grumble grumble*. Chances are the next game I will finish will be Pokemon Sword which I am really looking forward to playing (despite what others might think). I think its weird to post things like “follow me on my socials” but I do it anyway on the sidebar since that is the best way to see if I am dead or not. I have no way of closing out on this so I will leave you with an image that I found amusing.
